it started with an idea of portraying wings in a non traditional manner and just kinda went from there. i'm thinking about doing a series from this one, where i alter the idea through each image.

pages of my french dictionary, mecanical pencil, and acrilic paint.

This is very much taking psesion of me when looking at it... it is at the same time tender, poetic and beautiful, and sad; then again eerie and filled with a subtle, yet uncomfortable horror. Her empty face, like a mask with no personality or emotion, the shadow holding her.. like a spirit who has taken psession of her; then again, one of the 'ghost's hands holding the flowers she holds with the other... as if we can see two parts of her, split... or maybe the motionless face is a mask to protect her inner, vivid life visible in the shadow... the blood-red feathers, suggesting wings but also some native magic... while the bar hints a sort of a dance class (maybe something she is forced to do and thus withrdraws her inner self). Lots of different interpretations jump me - this is one piece keeping mind and emotion busy, and flollw you around. Great work :)

On the technical side, your collage style ist amazing as always and adds a lot to the atmosphere of the piece; oh and btw., though there are few features, you display a perfect skill with anatomy, everything, the pose, the arms' length, the feet, are perfectly correct and show how with just an outline, you can create a convincing human figure...

(i ment to reply earlier but i got distracted, sorry!) thanks a billion for putting into writing all the things that pop into your head. getting a different perspective and different take on it helps me to see it from new angels. looking at it from different sides helps me to develop the idea further and may help me to form other peices. love the ideas you brought up too. I am so glad you commented on the masklike quality, cause that was very much intended:), and you said that perhaps she is withdrawing into herself. that's really intreresting! i hadn't thought of it that way before, but i really like it. it's true that my peices intentionaly use mediphore that is left open to interpretation.:)

You're so welcome :)

I am glad you could take something from my comment... :)

Leaving a piece open to interpretation is quite a good approach, I firmly believe. What one wants to express should be in it, but also room for the viewer to think, feel, and create his/her own approach to, and meaning of the work in the process. :)

What a creative idea! I love the way that all of the words make her look- she seems kind of ghostly, kind of lost. And then, the way that the other child, more shadow than flesh and blood, is holding onto her from behind, like some kind of ephemeral guardian.
I like that about the piece. Ghost children. Hmm. Good stuff.

Also, the anatomy is -very- good. I love the girl's face, her arms....

The idea which spawned the drawing/painting came across very nicely. I love the pole-like 'bone', the way that the lush red feathers hang from it.

*snugs* heyyou...
i really like this. the quiet shadow behind her... holding her. the circle of the two joined arms make them merge so much into... "one" figure. ifthatmakessense? the initial impression i get from this is... a ballet dancer. the position of her arms, the bar in the background really makes me think of that bar they do their practices from... i don't know the name of it, though. ^^; but do you know what i'm talking about? if you were to make this into a series, you should try something like that. e_e i dunno. just my impression. ^^; <3 her outstretched arm is so graceful, so still in the air. i know my hands would shake... but she just gives off the feeling of stillness... but ready to burst into movement at any moment... burst into -flight-. i really like that. you can feel something will happen. the pink and blue are so calm, i love that combination (though i'm not sooo sure about the red... ^^; ), i just finished a project for design made out of wax and petri dishes that used all pink and blue. :3~ go us, working simultaneously even so far apart<3<3
hmmmmcritique... i think her legs may be a bit short? i think that's cause you drew her in the dress- i know that when i do that, i lose track of the proportions beneath the clothes. ^^; maybe adding a darker line of shadow directly beneath her feet? that would really give her the feel of being "grounded"... there's always a thin, dark shadow beneath objects. her dress also seems kind of flat... maybe.... use thicker paint? that would really pull it forward, the added texture.
and. yeah. miss yoooou. tell me if i can call you sometime? and what number i should call? (your cell, your house?) hugssnugsluff<3

*hugglesyou* wow, we are telepathic! hey, I think I'm gonna apply to Cleavland! I can't decide if I should try applying to Cooper Union. I just can't decide weather I think I can handle the home-test or not. *fretfret* hmm...anyway, about calling, yeah call the cell (224-8935), oh, and if you want to call tomarrow call between 1:00 and 5:00pm (are you an hour ahead of us or behind us?).

you're right about her legs being to short. that bugs me now! oh well, just remember that for the next one. the red feathers came out brighter from uping the contrast than they actually are on the page.
